Where To Buy Piano Music
It used to be that if you wanted to buy piano music, you would have to go to a music store.
Usually, you go to your neighborhood music store, there was often only one that was close enough to go to on a regular basis, and hope that they had the piece of music you wanted. If they didn’t carry it, you might call around to find a store that had it in stock, or that was willing to find it and bring it in just for you.
At the music store, they will carry a multitude of books in various student methods such as Bastien, Thompson or Suzuki. There would be the basic lesson book, the supplementary books that went with the student book (at whichever level the student was working), theory books, note-reading books, finger-drill books and even books with simplified classical pieces. There would also be other books of music, for example compilations of music by a certain composer, or soundtrack pieces from a particular movie or musical. Sometimes you could buy these at different skill levels, too. And then there were individual pieces of music. Usually, these were pieces that were popular at the time, or had become classics through the test of time, like The Entertainer!
Now, there are many places where you can buy piano music. Sure, you can buy your music through a regular music store just as before, it is nice to get your music right while you’re in the store! With the advent of the Internet, there are more options available to us!
Buying Piano Music Over The Internet
There are numerous Internet sites where one can get piano music. Some of these sites offer a link where you can hear an audio file of the music prior to downloading. If you haven’t heard the music before, that is particularly helpful. Some of these sites, like those of individual composers, or church sites, have the piano music available for free!
For some sites, the music costs a nominal amount. Examples of sites that would charge for their music are movie specific or production agency specific. These charge for their music but usually offer an immediate download. If you pay (often via PayPal, an online payment source) then you can download and print out the piano music immediately. This is especially useful if you suddenly realize you need such-and-such a piece, but don’t know where to get it.
Another option for buying piano music online is to buy sheet music or piano books from an online music store. There are several to choose from, and just inputting the name of the song and sheet music into an online search engine will often turn up several results.
Music can also be purchased (as books or sheet music) through online auction sites. This music may or may not be new, but it should say in the listing for the item. If it isn’t new, it will tell you the condition of the item.
Regardless of the way you get your piano music, you will enjoy having new music to play!
