All About Epa Gas Mileage
When it comes time to buy a new vehicle, you may find that you are drawn
to comparison shopping in terms of which car or truck gets the best gas mileage. But did you ever wonder where these car companies get their data for how well their vehicles are with gas mileage? Well, it is actually the epa, or the environmental protection agency is the ones behind all of the gas mileage numbers that you see flashed on those television screens. The epa gas mileage numbers that we are given are not always one hundred percent on the mark because they are nothing more then estimates.
This is because the fuel economy where you are located is almost certain to be a little bit different then the fuel economy from the epa gas mileage rating. This can be explained by driving on the highway to driving on back roads with hills and then driving on a flat terrain. Depending on where you drive and the conditions of the weather, you are going to get different gas mileage and it may not always line up with the epa gas mileage that was originally advertised for that car or truck.
Things To Keep In Mind
There are also some other things to keep in mind when it comes to the epa gas mileage such as your particular driving habits and how often you keep up with maintenance repairs and such. Also, the epa gas mileage estimates are not based off of someone driving with the air conditioner on which that drastically affects a car's gas mileage. But even though the epa gas mileage estimates are not straight on, they give you a good idea of what you can roughly expect, give or take a bit.
So when you are looking for a car, truck, or SUV that is great on gas, you can trust the epa gas mileage estimates to help guide you in the right direction at least. That way, you are not getting yourself into a vehicle that is a gas hog and that you will find that you cannot afford to drive. So keep a look out at what the epa is saying since we all need to take every step possible to save money since there seems to be no end in sight for the gas prices raising. When you pay attention and take precautions, you will be able to find the right car or truck for you that is pretty decent on gas.
